TPE Easements

img

These sites have restrictions on activities that occur on the land, but ownership is retained by private landowners. We assist owners in prairie and savanna management. With a few exceptions, these sites are NOT open to the public.

The easement restricts land use and activities to preserve the value of the land, in our case, prairie and savannas. Each conservation easement is tailored to a particular property and a particular landowner, while ensuring it meets our conservation goals. Registered in the public records, a conservation easement is binding on the current and all future owners of the property.

If you are interested in creating an easement for your property, contact Debra Behrens, TPE Executive Director.

NOTE: There are sites that are worthy of management despite no land protection through ownership or easement. Such works preserves the quality of the site, and hopefully some protection can be attained in the future. Some of these sites are listed under chapter webpages.
