About Our Chapter

St. Croix Chapter is located in an area that at one time included large dry prairies. Today there are small oak savanna remnants that still contain some uncommon plants associated with those historic prairies. Our chapter works on a few of these, visits others to appreciate what is left, and educates folks on fire-dependent ecosystems.

The St. Croix chapter covers Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin, and Washington county in Minnesota. We invite you to join us!

Our chapter:  the people, the sites we manage, the work we do

Volunteer with us!

What’s New

This is our work day schedule for the winter.  Details are on the TPE calendar below.  If you are on our mailing list, you will receive an reminder email a week before.

18-Feb at River Hills Park, River Falls

We will cut buckthorn, other non-native trees and brush, and stack for the City to pick up. Buckthorn comes from Europe and Asia and is invasive, meaning they outcompete native plants for space, sunlight and nutrients, upsetting the natural balance.

Come for 1, 2, 3, or all 4 hours. Whatever time you can volunteer is appreciated!

Date: February 18 (Saturday)
Time: 10am – 2pm
Location: Kinnickinnic Trail #11, River Falls, WI.

Meet at the Kinnickinnic Trail #11 trailhead between 673 and 709 River Ridge Road.

Wide open prairies and oak savannas once covered the landscape of the Upper Midwest. Today only a tiny fraction of these fire-dependent ecosystems remain, harboring many specialized and endangered plants and animals in some of the rarest habitats on Earth. Our community of Prairie Enthusiasts strives to protect and manage these complex, beautiful natural areas and help others learn about their importance.
